Believe it or not, the best way to get paid from a blog is to release things for free. Release all sorts of things – eBooks, themes, reviews, text links, ad spots, etc. for free on your blog. Even if you give crap out for free, people will still come because it’s all free!
Like I said, people will come to your site to get stuff for free, which is a great technique for building a community on your blog. When your community is built, it is then when you will be able to monetize your blog and start getting money for your generosity.
Without a community, you don’t earn money. When they say it takes a long time to start earning from your blog, they mean it! Just think “free” for a little while, and when the time comes – you can start thinking more among the lines of “getting paid.”

I agree. I think Darren Rowse has done this well on Problogger.net first he offered blogging advice for free but since creating strong traffic and subscribers he has been able to expand into e-books and creating pay-subscription service at problogger.com.
