Promoting Your Blog Offline

by Seth W on October 22, 2009

Blogging is a blast, but what if you are not getting any traffic?  Its probably not as fun because you are feeling like know one cares and none of your goals are being met.  How can we change that though?  I get this question all the time from clients and here are a few of my tips for promoting your blog offline.

I’m not trying to say that you should not promote your blog online, because if I said that I would be a fool.  Your first responsibility is to build links through a variety of ways like social media, article marketing, guest posts, and referrals.  After you have exhausted your resources online you should not forget the most important resources you have offline.  For many of my clients they have far more offline resources… do not forget to tap into them.

Blog about what you are passionate about.  If you do, then all your friends and family wont be surprised to hear that you are blogging about what you already talk about.  Also, you will already have connections about your topic.  If you are into politics then chances are you know a lot of people that are also interested.  There might be some people who are more into it then you think.  So if you are blogging about politics reach out and invite your friends and family to read your blog and participate through guest posts and comments.  A great way I have seen this done is by establishing an email list from your offline friends.  Facebook is another great way to connect to offline friends.

Don’t be afraid to talk about your blog to non-techies.  Too many bloggers are uncomfortable talking about their blog to others.  I know at times I have been.  That is why choosing the right topic and being satisfied with the quality of your content and design is important.  Then just start talking when it is relevant.  If you spend lots of time blogging, and someone asks you what you have been up to, tell them about your blog.  Then invite them to check it out.  Every single reader you pick up counts… big time.

Never forget the influence you have offline and use it to build your blog. Blog promotion will change everything.
